Who We Are

Pacific Youth Correctional Ministries - Fiji is a faith based non-profit NGO providing chaplaincy to the Fiji Prison Service. Our mission is to the incarcerated and ex-offenders, their families, and the officers of the Fiji Prisons System. Various voluntary groups have been providing chaplaincy services in Fiji for more than 20 years through Prison Fellowship International. We are, more recently, an outreach of PYCM, of whom Aporosa Rageci is International Director - Pacific Region.

Our Vision

To establish a community based chaplaincy training and rehabilitation centre to provide ongoing aftercare for released offenders, and assistance to Fiji Prisons Service for those incarcerated. We believe the life-changing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will achieve a true transformation, however we will actively support and encourage prisoners of all faiths and convictions as they seek to re-enter the wider community.

Types Of Activity

Our mandate is to oversee and co-ordinate all religious activity within the Prison System in Fiji. As such, we liaise with the various faith communities, churches, para-churches and interested parties to provide regular religious services, chaplaincy and counselling services, vocational, educational, craft and cultural activities and entertainment to the 14 prisons throughout the islands of Fiji Islands.

Location

Our base is at Korovo within the Suva Prison Administration Complex in Walu Bay, on Viti Levu, the largest of the Fiji Islands. From this location 4 district coordinators are appointed to oversee chaplaincy services to over 1,000 prisoners within the various institutional facilities.

About Our Prison Ministry

New Inmate programs are being given priority to help reduce the recidivism rate.

Support In

1. Pray for volunteers and wisdom in their activity in Fiji prisons.

2. Pray for new inmate visitation. As part of the prison allocation process, all new inmates in Fiji now receive an induction to Chaplaincy Services. This is a real answer to prayer. The next step is to make Pacific Youth Correctional Ministries (PYCM) materials available for all new prisoners (this helps a prisoner evaluate what has brought them to the point of incarceration and where they go from there).
