Who We Are
Charity Aid Hungarian Association of Prison Ministry is a representative of Catholic Prison Ministry and Prison Pastoral Care in Hungary, authorised by the Hungarian Bishops Conference for this activity. The activity of the Association is "full scale" prison ministry, i.e. prison ministry in its broad sense. Our association has 596 members of which 513 are Catholic.
Our Vision
Our ministry name is a Hungarian word for "night-light", an oil lamp or a particular kind of candle of feeble, faint light, which may be nevertheless the only hope of men in the realm of darkness. This is one of the main aims of our Association: to provide a hope for prisoners in lack of other kinds of illumination.
Types Of Activity
Our main activities are: evangelization, penpal service, aftercare (social rehabilitation homes), publication of books and periodicals, contact with prayer groups.
Location
All over Hungary, practically in all major prisons and jails.
About Our Prison Ministry
It is also a spiritual movement, urging the members of community pray for prisoners and their families. The movement is ecumenical, including members from Calvinist and Lutheran churches. Founded in 1989 by Dr Matyas Majzik, the present president.
